Your hair extensions are likely to come from either India or China and all are of the highest quality and made from real human hair.
The majority of human hair extensions are processed in Chinese factories. However, 'hair farmers' in India and China have very different ways of receiving the hair.
In India, head hair is shaved by a razor and then given to Indian temples as an offering to God. The temple will then sell on the hair to a 'hair farmer'. In China, the shaving of heads and using of hair in a variety of different products dates back to the 1050's when Mau Tse Tung made women shave their heads. This was then used in mattresses, engine oil filters and soldiers breast plates.
Although the ways of receiving the hair are very different, sorting and processing procedures are very similar in India and China. Once the hair has been delivered, it is combed and sized before being measured and sorted in a large factory. The hair is then tied together and sorted into different colours before being packaged and processed.
This hair is then exported to the Western world where it is used in hair extensions, wigs and hair adornments in the beauty industry. Although hair extensions are still incredibly popular with celebrities, they are also just as likely to be found in homes and hair salons.
Once a product aimed at the very wealthy, hair extensions and wigs are now popular throughout the world and are seen as a great way of improving your appearance without clearing out your bank balance.
